Yay for surgery being over and done with, and me not being in too much pain - although walking is quite a hassle! Sleep has taken over my life, but I'm finally feeling up to tackling all the good books - both print and audio - I got from the library when I foolishly thought I would have surgery and be up to reading in a matter of hours!

Daughter of Smoke & Bone, Laini Taylor.
Narrated by Khristine Hvam.
Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages - not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out.
This was a 5-star book all the way. Loved the story - the plot, the depth of the characters, the setting, the vivid imagery of Prague, the romance ... although I will say I thought it was a wee bit too much for me towards the end ... but overall, this is a beautiful story that's brilliantly written. And sure to be one of the most memorable books I read this year. (Amazon| Goodreads)

Still working on this one - a week later! Mackie Doyle is not one of us. Though he lives in the small town of Gentry, he comes from a world of tunnels and black murky water, a world of living dead girls ruled by a little tattooed princess. He is a Replacement, left in the crib of a human baby sixteen years ago. Now, because of fatal allergies to iron, blood, and consecrated ground, Mackie is fighting to survive in the human world. (AmazonI've got Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card already waiting in the wings next.

Hope you recover quickly! I've had The Replacement in mind but haven't picked it up yet. It looks good though.
