From Ash @ Smash Attack Reads
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon {review}. An EPIC historical romance set in the Scottish Highlands; Jamie Frasier will have you on your knees, begging for more.

The Sandalwood Tree by Elle Newmark {review}. This book drew me in from the first few pages. The atmosphere in India, the smells, colors, people and everything else is described so beautifully. It's historical fiction, taking place both in the 1950s and the 1840s.

Can you believe I read Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte for the first time in 2011? Uh, I had NO. IDEA. what I was missing out on {review}. I ADORE this book. I adore the characters. The humour. Thornfield. The Moors. The mystery and creep factor, and, yes, I'll be honest: the romance. I can't even begin to convey the depth of my adoration of this book. It's still relevant, still readable, still so, SO entertaining all this time later. Read it, then go and see the AMAZING movie. And the BBC mini-series.

I'm a sucker for historical fiction and one of my favorite reads recently has been, The Pale Blue Eye by Louis Bayard {review}. Bayard is creative, intelligent and humorous in his depiction of Edgar Allen Poe at West Point. There really was no part of this book I didn't love.

I don't remember how I heard about this book, but the honor has to go to The Lost Art Of Keeping Secrets by Eva Rice. Set in post-war London, it's an entrancing book that reminds me a bit of Dodie Smith's I Capture The Castle - just set decades in the future. Full of quirky characters, rock and roll and unrequited love, I devoured it quickly and recommend it to everyone I know {review}
