Book recommendation is such a tricky thing, but I tried my hand today at pairing books that I think work well together.

5 Authors 10 Books That Read-A-Like {Dystopian, Fantasy & Science Fiction Bookishness}

If You Like Veronica Roth (Divergent), Then You'll Like ...

LegendMarie Lu (Legend) - because this dystopian society is also seriously messed up, and yeah - there is a cute romance involved too. {see my discussion @ Weekly Reading with Olive Kitteridge and Legend}

Lauren Oliver (Delirium) - because although the dystopian Worlds created in both books seem a little implausible, the strength of characters can't be denied. {Amazon | Goodreads}

If you like George R.R. Martin (A Song Of Ice & Fire Series), Then You'll Like ...

Wizards First RuleTerry Goodkind (Sword of Truth Series) - because of 4 words ... epic fantasy done right! Start from the beginning with Wizard's First Rule and prepare to lose yourself to Richard & Kahlan. {Amazon | Goodreads}

Steven King (The Dark Tower Series) - because the strong characters & their stories will hold you captive. {Amazon | Goodreads}

If You Like China Mieville (Embassytown), Then You'll Like ...

Gods WarKameron Hurley (God's War) - because of the incredibly inventive World building skills ... and I think you'll like this better than Embassytown {see my discussion @ Weekly Reading During God's War}

N.K. Jemisin (The Kingdom of Gods) - more fantasy than science fiction, but again, the World building skills & prose are glorious ... and I think you'll also like this better than Embassytown {see my discussion @ Weekly Reading In The Freedom Maze and The Kingdom of Gods}

If You Like Jo Walton (Among Others), Then You'll Like ...

Before I FallLauren Oliver (Before I Fall) - because although this is also light on the fantasy, it's the story that will take your breath away ... and yes, I think you'll like this book better than Among Others {Amazon | Goodreads}

Melina Marchetta (Jellicoe Road) - because of both the main characters are a bit depressed, but trying to figure out their place in the World ... I think you'll also prefer this book to Among Others. {Amazon | Goodreads}

If You Like Suzanne Collins (The Hunger Games) - Then You'll Like ...

The Scorpio RacesMaggie Stiefvater (The Scorpio Races) - because another girl who no one expects to make it, does - with grit, determination & a fierce amount of hard work + help from unexpected friends - although she has her fair share of enemies too {see my discussion @ Weekly Reading at The Scorpio Races with Mara Dyer}

Maria Snyder (Poison Study) - because girl power rules ... again! {Amazon | Goodreads}

Awesome list! I only read Wizard's First Rule (so many books, so little time to delve into the rest of the series) but I agree, people who love GRRM's works will definitely enjoy his books =)

Here's my TTT for this week =)

I've heard mixed things about Legend and I haven't decided if I'm going to read it yet.

One of my friends read The Scorpio Races and cannot stop raving about it. It's on my TBR list for sure!

Ooh, I like your list! I'm long overdue to finally read a Melina Marchetta book but I think I will soon.

Before I Fall and Legend have both been in my TBR for a while. I should definitely read those now!

Great list!

I'm really tempted to check out Jellicoe Road, it seems to be one of the few books that I've heard only good things about!

Thanks for stopping by my blog :)

I'd love to read the Scorpio Races and it's been on my TBR pile too long, I should pick it up asap. Thanks for the recommendations :)

Ooh, some good ones! I still need to read Legend, A Game of Thrones, The Scorpio Races, and On the Jellicoe Road. Hopefully I'll be able to read them soon. Great list, and thanks for stopping by my Top Ten Tuesday!

I have Divergent and Insurgent on my iPad to read. Must get on it! I have wanted to read Game of Thornes, but haven't yet. I am still a little unsure of whether I will like them or not. I love your list--several recommendations for different authors. Awesome!

You know...I didn't care for Divergent too much but loved Delirium. I feel like those have a different feel. Or maybe I'm just broken.

I love this list! The Hunger Games is my all time favorite book, but I haven't read The Scorpio Races yet. I own it, I just haven't gotten to it yet. Another good series that reminds me of the Hunger Games series is The Maze Runner series by James Dashner. They are amazing!
