It’s not that I don’t love romance books – I do – but I’m also fascinated by crazy and weird love in books. Here are a few examples of the good stuff – #crazygoodlove – #crazyweirdlove – and the #crazyloveofcrazies.
Crazy Good Love
The Shoemaker’s Wife, Adriana Trigiani is an epic love story. It follows Ciro and Enza from their chance meetings when they were kids growing up in Italy, to when they met again and again as adults who had emigrated to NY, eventually falling in love and building a life together. This a deep, detailed, wonderful journey, rich in history, sometimes sad, but always … always beautiful.
Crazy Weird Love
If you look at my post on Weird Love Interests in Books – you’ll see books were a woman falls in with a void; one even has a sexual relationship with a chimp. I dub these … #crazyweirdlove
Crazy Love … Will Fuck You Up!
Oh these books – sometimes I just didn’t know what to feel. Did the victims deserve what they got when they cheated? I dunno. All I know is that I loved reading them – books liked Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and The Silent Wife by A.S.A. Harrison. Check out #CrazyLove Will Fuck you Up {A Reading List}.
Crazy Stupid … Or Rather I Was Crazy Stupid For Reading This
Sigh … Why We Broke Up, Daniel Handler. I must have been out of my mind to read a book about a 3-month love affair between 2 teenagers. It was a diary-like accounting by Min after she and her boyfriend broke up. Maybe this is intended solely for teenagers EXCEPT I would NEVER advise a teenage girl to give a letter to an ex-boyfriend detailing all the things she thought and all the obsessive things she did during their relationship!
Crazy Love Makes You Do Crazy Things
In Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson, Christine Lucas, a 47 year old woman who suffered a terrible accident twenty years ago that caused an anomaly with her memory – every morning she wakes up not knowing who she is. I don’t want to give anything away with this book, so all I’m going to say is I loved it – and it shows just how far some people will go for love.
Have you read any of these books? Do you have any recommendations for books with crazy love? Or for anyone in #crazylove.

I would NEVER advise a teenage girl to give a letter to an ex-boyfriend detailing all the things she thought and all the obsessive things she did during their relationship! — SERIOUSLY. I can accept it as the premise of the book, but what a huge world of nope.

@Akilah – exactly!

Oh, I LOVED The Shoemaker’s Wife! Though probably not for the ‘love story’ as much as the ‘immigrant story’. Enzo and Ciro immigrated from the same region of Italy and at about the same time as my grandfather (though he was just a tot), so I almost felt like I was reading about family and the experience of coming to a new country and adapting.
I didn’t really appreciate The Silent Wife and Gone Girl they way others have.
Another book I really enjoyed is Lone Star by Paullina Simons. I’m not sure how to place it here; maybe in the ‘teen romance’ category, but it wasn’t a typical teen romance.

I thought of Gone Girl immediately! Fun list. I tend to like crazy love better than romantic love too.

OMG Daire – I have to get my hands on that book1 Sleeping with a lake … crazy!!
Daire
Night Tides by Alex Prentiss. A woman who is sleeping with a lake. Enough said.

I love crazy love (only in books of course lol) Gone Girl was pure crazy but I loved every minute of it!
I’ve heard a lot of mixed things about Why We Broke Up but I have to agree, sending a letter detailing all the things you thought and obsessive things you did is a terrible idea at any age!

YES!!! Why We Broke Up is terrible!! And that book about someone falling in love with a dolphin??? WHA???????? Must check out this book’s reviews, it sounds like a SyFy channel Saturday night movie!

I desperately need to read Gone Girl. I need to read it this year!

This is a great list. I have read Gone Girl and that was messed up! I would like to read The Shoemaker’s Wife. Giving a shout out to the classics, Persuasion was my favorite Austen love story. Under the Jeweled Sky by Alison McQueen is a fantastic forbidden love story. The fault in our Stars had a crazy good love story too.

I couldn’t help but laugh out loud that you put Gone Girl under fucked up love. That is so perfect.
Now I’m moving Before I Go To Sleep up my TBR pile. I’m intrigued!

Before I Go To Sleep is a totally messed up book! I don’t know if I could read about love with an actual dolphin…
