{Bloggers Recommend} A Book Series That Will Have You Hooked From the Beginning

From Natalie @ Coffee and a Book Chick

A Song of Fire and Ice Series by George RR Martin {review}. For lack of a better way to phrase it, I just couldn't put down the first book, Game of Thrones. I read 600 plus pages in literally a few days, and this is coming from someone who is no expert in fantasy or world-building.

Game of ThronesDelirium

From Melanie @ Reclusive Bibliophile
Delirium by Lauren Oliver {review}. I can't speak for the rest of the series yet, but Delirium sucked me in, stole my breath away, and left me anxious for more. Early buzz for Pandemonium (book 2) promises more of the same, but even better.
From Melissa @ I Swim for Oceans
It's no secret that I'm obsessed with Harry Potter. He's my hero. I love him. I wish he was real, to be honest. This is a series I grew up with, and I stood in many a midnight line for the book releases ... in full character dress. I'm still re-reading the series, and I can't wait to share it with my children. :)

Harry PotterBlood Demon

From Chrissie @ Once Upon a Series
Demons of Infernum by Rosalie Lario {reviews}. This an amazing Paranormal Romance series that has it all - action, mystery, romance and characters that you can't help but love. Ms. Lario has created a world that I would love to live in and characters that I would love to get to know in real life (especially Taeg from Mark of the Sylph *swoon*). This is definitely my favorite paranormal romance series that I have come across since I started reading this genre and I highly recommend them to anybody who loves a sexy alpha male and a strong and independent heroine.
From Dani @ Pen to Paper
Dead Until DarkSookie Stackhouse (or True Blood) series by Charlaine Harris. I've not rated a single one of the books in this series less than 5 stars, which is an achievement, seeing as I've read all the books in the series so far (11)! Dead Until Dark is the first in the Sookie Stackhouse series, and it is also the first of her novels that I ever read, back in early 2009 (and I'm proud to say, before the TV series hit our UK shores), and I've not looked back since. The series rekindled my love with Urban Fantasy novels, which I had, until that point, been avoiding a little. I was instantly hooked to the first book because I felt less like a story was being narrated to me, and more like I was being told the story by a close friend; a feeling I've not managed to find in any other books I've read.

Have you read any of these series? Do you have any recommendations that you would add to this list?

Oh my goodness, yes, yes and YES to Sookie Stackhouse! And if you love them, read Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost! Like Buffy, only if Spike and Angel were hotter than the fire of a thousand suns XD

Thanks for including me in this fun feature Tanya :)

I've read the first four books in the Sookie Stackhouse series and loved them. I really must carry on with those.

Plus I still haven't read Harry Potter! But my goal is to at least read the first one before the end of this year!

@Chrissie - gasp - you haven't read HP yet?! Read 'em now :-) I haven't read any of the Sookie Stackhouse series yet.

@saz - you are making me increase my "to be read" list!

Dani @ Pen to Paper | December 7, 2011 7:29 AM | Reply

I'm glad that the Sookie Stackhouse series is a popular one! Charlaine is my favourite author, as I think I said in my little bit there - she's never let me down! Although, I see there is a mistake in the editing - there aren't 16 books in the series - I originally said I've read 16 of Charlaine's books in total so far - that's including all her other series.

As for the othes, I've also read and loved Delirium by Lauren Oliver and look forward to the next one. And who hasn't read Harry Potter?!

Fixed it Dani - thanks for pointing it out.

This is such a good idea for a feature!

I agree with Melanie re: Delirium. I've read a lot of YA dystopias this year, but most of them are pretty blah. Delirium is very much not, and I'm stoked for the sequel to be released.

Game of Thrones is on my TBR list, and I keep putting it off because I'm intimidated by the length. Everyone I know seems to have sped through it, so maybe I shouldn't be, but...it's so long!

I've only read HP. Game of Thrones is on my reading list for next month since there's a read-along going on.

Barmy_Bex | December 9, 2011 4:39 PM | Reply

I wasn't that impressed with Delirium, but I think I'm in the minority.
Harry Potter is the best!!!
I haven't read any of the others on the list, but would recommend the Skulduggery Pleasant series. :D

I really want to read the Martin series! That's one of the books I'm hoping to get to next year.

I really think I want to read A Game of Thrones. I just can't bring myself to put the book hold. I would be 188 out of 23 copies. By the time I got the book I wouldn't want to read it.

As for Delirium and the Sookie Stackhouse series, I find them intimidating. Delirium because of all of the amazing buzz surrounding it. The Sookie series has too many books for me to read to be able to catch up.
