The 2011 Global Reading Challenge required reading at least one novel from each of the continents. Below are my choices (and links to reviews at Goodreads).
The 2011 Global Reading Challenge {Finished}
- Africa - Mixed Blood, Roger Smith (South Africa). Good crime novel.
- Asia - The Marriage Bureau for Rich People, Farahad Zama (India). Funny and cute at the same time. Really liked this book and would read it again!
- Australasia - Aunt Dimity Down Under, Nancy Atherton (New Zealand). This wasn't a bad novel - but it was more like a tourist guide book than an intriguing mystery - which is great ... because I now want to visit Australia & New Zealand.
- Europe - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Stieg Larson (Sweden). So good and HIGHLY recommend (the trilogy).
- North America - The Glass Castle, Jeanette Walls (USA). This book was so well written - I feel guilty saying it was a good book since the author grew up under such bad circumstances - a really good read (and so hard to believe it's non-fiction).
- South (and Central) America - Tales from the Town of Widows, James Canon (Columbia). The plot for this book held so much promise, but the writing was a boring let-down.
- The Seventh Continent - Across the Universe, Beth Revis (the spaceship Godspeed). It was okay - not bad.
