June 2012 Recap

June was great - I went to Book Expo America which was super awesome, gushed about audiobooks for an entire week & introduced a weekly-ish foodie feature.

Graffiti MoonPureJellicoe RoadShip BreakerSoft ApocalypseReady Player OneGods WarCinderrMechanique (Book)

Favorites: God's War, Kameron Hurley. But I also really liked Cinder, Ready Player One, and Graffiti Moon.

Least Favorite: Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns), Mindy Kaling - not that I didn't like this, but isn't a memoir supposed to have something poignant in it? Well, I didn't find it in this book - but there were moments that were really funny.

I'm intrigued to read the Mindy Kaling book, and it's been on my TBR list for a while, but I still haven't got around to it... Looks like some good books this month (well, last month!), I've heard a lot of good things about Jellicoe Road and Ready Player One.

You're on a role! I kind of lost momentum in June but I'm hoping to pick it back up again in July.

I love this idea! What a great post. :) That's too bad you weren't too keen on Mindy Kaling's books ... I admit it's not the best memoir, but I thought it was cute!

Ship Breaker is one of my all-time favorite books EVER. I loved the main character, Nailer Lopez, and I loved the feeling of claustrophobia Paolo Bacigalupi created in that book. Basically, I loved everything about it. I'm a huge huge Paolo B. fan and I just LOVE his world-building. Speaking of world-building, PURE by Julianna Baggott is another favorite of mine. I have read that one three times and it seems I find stuff in it that I've missed with each read. I can't wait until the next book comes out in early '13.

Wow, you've been busy!! You went to BEA, write all these posts, AND read 9 books? Wow, you are my hero!

I just got Ready Player One from the library yesterday - I've been wanting to read it for a while, plus one of my favorite podcasts, The Readers, is doing a summer book discussion on it. Can't wait!

We listened to Ship Breaker on our spring break road trip and enjoyed it.

Looks like it was a great month - enjoy your books!

Sue
