The 2012 Eclectic Reader Challenge

I joined The Eclectic Reader Challenge (hosted by Book'd Out), earlier this year, and it has been my favorite reading challenge so far. The goal is to push you a little outside your comfort zone by reading up to 12 books during the year from 12 different genres.

The 2012 Eclectic Reader Challenge {Plan}

The Books

1. Literary Fiction - The Marriage Plot, Jeffrey Eugenides (84)
2. Crime/Mystery Fiction - The Lock Artist, Steve Hamilton (157)
3. Romantic Fiction - When Beauty Tamed the Beat, Eloisa James (116)
4. Historical Fiction - Mistress of Rome, Kate Quinn (146)
5. Young Adult - The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, Michelle Hodkin (57)
6. Fantasy - Neverwhere, Neil Gaiman (153)
7. Science Fiction - Firebird, Jack McDevitt (211)
8. Non Fiction - MLK: A Celebration in Word and Image, Martin Luthur King Jr (85)
9. Horror - 77 Shadow Street, Stephen King (58)
10. Thriller /Suspense - The Night Strangers, Chris Bohjalian (198)
11. Classic - Tess of the D'urbervilles, Thomas Hardy
12. Your favorite genre - Daughter of Smoke & Bone (174)

This reading challenge has been amazing so far because I've re-discovered my love for genres that I don't read much of anymore - like romance & historical fiction (specifically historical romance) - I'm definitely going to read more these types of books in the future.

*** The numbers in parenthesis indicate that the books are complete and posted at the host website.

Love your book choices! I'm off to kind of a slow start with this challenge so hopefully I'll be able to finish it.

I'm participating in this challenge as well. I'm just really bad at updating my reviews to the challenge page. I need to do that. I hope it isn't too late. I have a few more before I'm done but I love the sense of progress that this challenge brings.
