The Sunday Best

September Library Loot

I picked up 2 books to read for A Diverse Universe Challenge to highlight speculative fiction authors of color.

Parable of the SowerThe Killing Moon

Parable of the Sower, Octavia Butler. In a time of urban squalor, rampant violence, and deadly decay, anarchy rules. But for Lauren Olamina, a new hope is dawning when she leaves the chaos of L.A. and flees north with a tiny band of followers. (Amazon| Goodreads)

The Killing Moon (Dreamblood #1), NK Jemisin. In the ancient city-state of Gujaareh, peace is the only law, and the Gatherers, the keepers of this peace. Priests of the dream-goddess, their duty is to harvest the magic of the sleeping mind and use it to heal, soothe ... and kill those judged corrupt. (Amazon| Goodreads)

I just finished my first Octavia Butler book. (I know!!) I loved it and I have found a new favorite author. I am going to check out Parable of the Sower or start the Pattern master series next. I think I might do an Octavia Butler reading challenge for myself next year since there are about 14 books. Great picks! No plain vanilla for me! LOL!
