At GXO headquarters we like to check out the book award winners each year. Of course, there are some awards that we pay attention to more than others.
Nebula Awards
(Tanya) The Nebula Awards annually recognize the best works of science fiction or fantasy published in the United States during the previous year. A few years ago I started reading each book nominated for Best Novel. I like this award because it represents both fantasy and science fiction books. I don’t always agree with the choice of winners, but I’m always introduced to some some surprise favorites.
Audie Awards
(Kim) Audio books are a big part of the way I read so I love to check out the winners of the Audie Awards each year. For me, a narrator can make or break a book and I usually find a couple of new to me favorite readers from this award list.
Hugo Awards
(Kim) For the same reason that we like to check out the Nebula Awards, the Hugo Awards are fun for me to keep up with as well. This award is given out annually and goes to the best science fiction or fantasy books of the previous year. I have read so many great books from the list of nominees and winners.
Goodreads Choice Awards
This is more a “readers choice” award, where books are put to the popular vote to determine the “best”. We both love looking through the nominees and voting through our favorites. Last year, we even wrote Let’s Talk Goodreads Choice Award Nominees and well … a few of our picks won their category. It was fun to consider which books we thought would win and why – as well as picking some books to add to our reading list. We love this award because it’s “readers choice”.
Which book awards do you pay attention to … if any?
