Here are the book covers we loved the most from our reads this year – and more importantly we’re sharing if the book as good as the cover suggests.

The Bone Houses, Emily Lloyd-Jones
Not only will the story of The Bone Houses enchant you, but the cover will too. I mean, just look at how gorgeous and intricate the design is. If you look closely you’ll see the golden skull is made from leaves and flowers. I couldn’t find any information on who designed it but I’m going to keep searching.
An Unkindness of Ghosts, Rivers Soloman
I’m not quite sure what it is about this cover but I’m completely drawn to it. Technically I read this at the very end of last year but I still can’t get it out of my head. I’m assuming it’s Aster on the cover. The eyes, specifically are drawn so well. There’s a lot behind them and if gives you a premise of the complexity of the character in the book. I also just really love the coloring and the overlay of the stars/galaxy. Again, I can’t find anything about the cover illustrator.

Children of Virtue & Vengeance, Tomi Adeyemi
The cover of the first book in the series, Children of Blood and Bone, also made my list of favorite covers last year – and this cover is just as stunning! It’s an interpretation of the main character, Zelie, who brought magic back her people, the maji. The author, Adeyemi, explains a little about the cover in this Essence mag interview. The book is definitely as good as the cover.
Queenie, Candice Carty-Williams
The striking orange cover with the braided updo – I don’t think I’ve seen a cover like this before and I love the contrast. It successfully drew my eye, pulled me in … and let me tell you – the book is just as good as the cover!
On the Come Up, Angie Thomas
This was one of the first books I read this year. It’s a young adult novel, and I love how the cover stays true to what the main character is like. She’s a teenager wanting to be recognized as being her own person. She’s into hip-hop and is a bit of a tomboy. Another one where the book is as good as the cover.
Have you read any of these books? Are the books on your favorite covers list also some of your favorite reads of the year? If you’re participating in #AMonthofFaves [The 2019 Edition] link up to your blog post (or Instagram picture) below.

I included the cover of Queenie on my list, too! And I *almost* included On the Come Up. All of these covers are gorgeous. Children of Virtue and Vengeance is on my list for 2020 and I can’t wait. I’ll probably end up reading it in January. I also want to read An Unkindness of Ghosts now, just because of the cover!

Oh my goodness, I just happened to look back at my post and realized I totally left Queenie out of it! Darn it! That was on my list for this prompt, too. I’m glad you included it on yours!
