Confession time. As someone who talks up audiobooks constantly and is always trying to get my friends and family to try them, I’ve been failing at the audiobook game this year! I honestly couldn’t believe it when I checked my log and found that I’d only listened to one (!) audiobook so far. It’s no surprise that my read total is pretty low this year then- audiobooks are always how I manage to up my numbers.
I have plenty of audiobooks in my queue to choose from so I really have no excuse, especially because many of them I’m really excited to listen to. So I vowed to up my audiobook consumption for the second half of the year….and then I hit a bit of a snag…
Aurora Rising, Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
The year is 2380, and the graduating cadets of Aurora Academy are being assigned their first missions. Star pupil Tyler Jones is ready to recruit the squad of his dreams, but his own boneheaded heroism sees him stuck with the dregs nobody else in the Academy would touch. And Ty’s squad isn’t even his biggest problem—that’d be Aurora Jie-Lin O’Malley, the girl he’s just rescued from interdimensional space.
So far, this book is so much fun. I love the rag tag cast of snarky misfits and the plot itself it shaping up to be a great ride. However- I’m struggling with listening to it on audio. It’s read by a full cast, and while I normally love that, it’s not really working for me this time around. I’m having trouble following some of the characters because their voices sound so similar. So despite my goal to start kicking audiobook booty, I’m going to have to switch to the paper version of this one. In any case, I can already tell I’m going to love this book- this author duo can do no wrong in my eyes so far.
Are you a fan of audiobooks or do you have trouble following the storyline?
